It’s that time of year again. Time to assess all that we’ve got and be thankful for it all. And this year, Analogue Transit’s got loads to be thankful for. At the top of that list are all of you who have supported ATR through our inaugural year. For everyone who came to a show, bought the album, or just passed on the good word to a friend of yours, we are truly thankful.

And we’d like to give you a little something in return:

If you’re a Zune user, good news! Zune is running a special holiday promotion and the song “Home” will be featured as a “Free Song of the Day” all this week. So log on with your device, and load up on the free stuff!

If it’s eye candy you’re into, we’d like to direct your attention to a lovely gallery put together by photographer Sixten Abbot who attended the ATR show this past Friday night at The Blackstone in Pawtucket, RI. He came out to see another band, but liked what he heard. Check out his awesome work here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/amateur6/

And for a more interactive experience there’s this amazing footage from the Gallatone Records Artist Showcase this past Saturday at Webster Hall’s The Studio, shot by our good friend Warren.

ATR is well on their way to a full dance card as they offer more opportunities to see them live. August finds them carousing around New England and, of course, frolicking in the backyard that is New York City and home. (Haven’t heard “Home” yet? It’s on Gearheart, whose digital re-release is just a couple of weeks away. August 25, 2009 to be exact. Put it on your calendars, kittens.)

First up is this Sunday’s gig at Fontana’s, where Analogue Transit teams up Pillow Theory and Betty Black for an evening powered by the Black Rock Coalition. The boys go on at 8:30, so get there in time to get plugged in.

Other upcoming shows find ATR in upstate New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and more. Check the Tour Page to find a show near you.

And if they’re not coming to see you fast enough, tell us where they ought to be! If you’ve got a local favorite place that you think would be perfect for an Analogue Transit experience, email us and let us know!

What? You weren't there? Where were you? Don't you know what you missed?

What? You weren’t there? Where were you? Don’t you know what you missed?

*listens*

*scoffs*

No, seriously. That’s not really an excuse. You’re going to have to do better next time. I mean, do what you wanna do, it’s not like we’re going to judge you or anything, but it’s your funeral, really…’Cuz the rest of us were treated to something that was pretty much awesome. Yup, put another W in the column, because Analogue Transit’s show last night at Southpaw was, you know, for the win. True, those of us here at ATR headquarters may be just the teeny-tiniest bit biased (myself included), but I have a roomful of people I’m sure would back us up. The crowd was large and all-around fantastic, giving good energy for the band to feed off of and give something back.

As for highlights? Where oh where should I begin?

One word: live. The show was live, the guys were live, the crowd was live. And I mean that in all variations of the word’s meaning. If you weren’t there, then… well, I guess you weren’t live.

Another word: Sam. The newest addition to the band brought a new element to the live show, giving the band a nice full surround-sound like presence in the venue and proving to be a certified crowd pleaser. Not to mention being sickly talented. And this was only his third show? Get outta here. There was some good old-fashioned, seasoned professional calm and cool going on behind the drum kit last night.

Jeff flexing the golden pipes. That’s right, boy wonder got a chance to strut his vocal stuff last night, singing solo on the bridge during “Breathe.” There were handclaps and wolf whistles and I might have even seen a lady or two swoon. It was powerful stuff people…

“Breathe.” The crowd last night was among the first to hear an alternate version of this favorite single from the band’s first album. Not only did it feature the aforementioned Jeff on the breakdown, but there was a killer drum solo in the middle and Kwaku’s vocals have been treated to a new arrangement that really sends the song soaring.

Kwaku covering Chaka Demus and Pliers with a “Murder She Wrote” breakdown in the middle of what was perhaps the most amped up performance of Blackout Artist I’ve ever seen/heard. You know he’s got the chops, but have you ever heard him break it down ragga-stylee?

So, if you missed it, we’ll just put a big ol’ L in that column for you. But fret not, because there are other opportunities for you to redeem yourselves in the near future as ATR continue to rock their way through the summer. Check the Tour Schedule for show dates, locations, and times, and come out to support.

Also: there’s a little bit of great big news cresting over the horizon. Stay tuned here for more information so you’ll be the first to know. And so you won’t be a L…. well, you know.

After hours of hi hts, bass kicks, and furballs (yes, furballs!) the perfect drummer has been found.

Several weeks ago we reported that the search was underway for a drummer to join the live show entourage of ATR. Now, after hours of hi hats, bass kicks, and furballs (yes, furballs!), we’re here to let you know that the search is over. The sweat, the tears, the heartache… it is kaputt. And while we know we’ll spend the rest of our lives making amends to Pedro the Cat, we’re thrilled to welcome Sam Merrick to the ATR family.

Who is this percussive phenom?

Behind the drum kit, hailing from Brandon, Vermont and weighing in with over 10 years of performance and recording experience, is the stick-wielding virtuoso Sam Merrick, who started playing drums at the tender age of 9. His auspicious beginnings included years playing in various district and All-state Jazz ensembles. While attending Boston University, Sam became heavily involved in the Boston music scene, playing with a wide range of artist/bands such as The High Rise, Soulfege, The Genetics, and Love in Stockholm which cover musical stylings of Jazz to Reggae and Hip-hop to funk. In the Fall of 2008, Sam moved to Brooklyn, NY to further persue his musical endeavours. He also performs with rockabilly outfit That Handsome Devil, and singer-songerwriters Jon Sandler and Argyle Johansen.

But don’t just take our word for it…

Kwaku moves house, Jeff says good-bye to another year gone, and the boys discuss Martha Stewart's hotness. Yes, her hotness...

So, it’s Friday, and the word on the street is that the boys have a big weekend planned for themselves. Saturday is Jeff’s birthday – Happy Birthday, Red Beard! Be sure to send wishes, greetings, and large cash donations on this very special day!

And Kwaku is moving house which, incidentally, is how he and Jeff got to be such close friends in the first place, when the barely-acquainted duo tag-teamed to get Kwaku moved, lo those many years ago. That’s right, AnTran is a family band, built on the bonds of backbreaking work and the sweat of their brows. See what wonderful and completely useless pieces of information you learn when you visit Analogue Transit?

That’s right. We here at Analogue Transit advocate quantity over quality in our news reporting. Remember – the more you know…

What we here at Analogue Transit.com don’t know (and secretly aren’t sure if we want to know) is what the hell is going on here. Martha Stewart? Really? No, we mean… REALLY???
